I thought I would share in incident we had where a weapon strike was applied to a student wearing a FIST suit. We were conducting hooded drills with and without guns out in a ready position. Once the hood was raised the role players would launch haymakers, waist line tackles, and present other lethal and non lethal threats. One officer stuck the role player with the floor plate of his magazine on his duty weapon. During one of those strikes, the padding either moved or the officer caught a gap in the FIST suit helmet and the role player got clipped a little harder than we wanted to. The role player didn't receive any cuts or bruising, however he did have a headache for a couple days and almost went to the hospital to get checked out. He is 100%now, but we've decided to not allow weapon strikes to the head. Ken, any suggestions on better equipment for that type of training, or should weapon strikes not be applied to the RP's head. We'll be purchasing at least one high gear suit in the next week.
