The officer was dispatched to a Disturbance call. While enroute he is told one suspect was threatening to go on a shooting rampage and his other family members were in a physical altercation with him to keep him from accessing firearms and shooting it out with the police.

The suspect Jerel Lamar, 25, was hit in the foot in the shootout with Austin police Corporal Michael Barger. Barger was uninjured but a shotgun bullet lodged in the patrol car door he was using as cover. The officer retreated after having an unspecified handgun malfunction. The suspect later surrendered to SWAT after a standoff. The suspect also apparently set fire to his family's house during the standoff.
