Below is a link to an OIS that happened in KC. Here is the situation: Officers were dispatched to a single car accident. Enroute they pass a guy walking away about a block from the accident. When they arrive they realize that the guy walking away was the driver. They then go looking for him and find him in a park.

I have a bunch of links to OIS I hope it is alright to post them here. I send these out to my officers when I get them. I try to view as many OIS as I can to see what worked what didn't and mentally prepare so if something like this occurred to me. I recently read an article that stated "Remember 20/20 hindsight = 20/20 insight = 20/20 foresight. By constructively analyzing a situation that went wrong, we come to understand what could have been done better — and here’s the key — we learn what to do next time (and there will be a next time), so that a similar future situation has a far better outcome."

If it is okay to post OIS links like this please let me know and I will post away.

Thanks

Absolutely! Thanks for the content.

Ideally, for this forum, it would be useful to add some commentary as to how or where training might have failed or where training obviously made the decisive difference.

Welcome to the forums!

My thoughts on this incident is that the first Officer is lucky to be alive. Being totally out of shape almost cost him his life. He struggled even trying to get up. I did like how he fired from different positions. He shot on his knees went to the rear of the car for cover and fired some more.

I like how the second officer aggressively attacked the situation. His first use of the car was great, but he then crowded his cover. His combat reload was sloppy. He had to look down at his duty belt to find his magazines.

I also like the verbal commands. It looks good on the video to the untrained. The officers were giving precise commands and if they did have to shoot again no one could blame them since they told the suspect they were going to shoot him if he didn’t comply to commands.
