We are just months away from implementing airsoft into our training. My proposal is to have 4 to 6 officers per training session once a month. Within a year every officer will have gone thru the training. The first years training will be shooting drills in the morning and then force on force scenario training in the afternoon. The following year, mix it up to something like traffic stops in the morning and building searches in the afternoon. This training WILL NOT take any time away from our current firearm training. Airsoft does not replace actually throwing lead down range. I plan on posting my drills on here for many reasons. I want people to pick it apart and show me flaws or what could be changed for the better.
Drill #6 Reloading drill
The officer is given three magazines with unknown to the officer the amount of BB’s in them. The magazines are loaded so the officer cannot fire very much till they need to reload. One magazine in put in the airsoft pistol and the other two are stored in their mag pouch. The role player is given a foam baton. Only the role player knows that if he is shot in a vital area that he will pause for a second or two. A grazing shot or a shot to the arms or legs will not be given any response. The role player is to go after the officer fast enough to cause the officer to move and try to get distance while threatening the officer with the baton. The officer will quickly need to reload. How well will the officer reload under true stress of a person coming at them wanting to hit them with a baton? If the officer is all screwed up like a soup sandwich have them practice while others go thru the drill and then have them repeat the drill till the officer get comfortable reloading under stress. As usual let’s add some more fun. Have the other students stand around the room. This adds pressure since a missed shot at the suspect could hit an innocent bystander. Of course to make things even more fun, do it in low light to make the office have to use a flash light. Make sure that the officer keeps giving the suspect commands.
Of course always have the correct amount of protective gear on all those involved.
