Hello all, Just finished Ken's class last month. I'm sure he gets tired of hearing it but, It was the best Instructor development course I've ever taken. I've been to a lot of schools that taught me how to teach, but Ken taught me how to make my students learn. Thanks Ken.
The reason for my post today is that I'm writing up a proposal to my administration to begin an In Service reality based training program that would run continuosly throughout the year. Officers would come off the road for 30 minutes or so to participate in a scenario, then return to service. I've got a lot of details to sort out, but what I'm looking for is another agency that has been successful with a similiar program. Something I can wave in the Chief's face to say, "see this works for the _______PD" . I would also appreciate any input on those details I've got to work out. Scheduling, Officer "buy in", etc. ,as well as any unforseen glitches you may have run into that I can avoid.
My Dept. is about 750 Officers strong and my administration is not particularly training friendly, so I've got my work cut out for me. We currently use RBT only for special units and recruit level instruction. Right now, almost all of our In Service training is conducted in 8 hr blocks with about 24 Officers attending each day. You can image how much "down time" is racked up as a result.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
