Hey folks ...

Rather than start our own forum on this topic, there is an excellent external forum that is hosted and moderated by, to my mind, the most knowledgeable person in the Airsoft business when it comes to police and military training. That person is William Mathes. His company is dedicated to Airsoft for police and military only. Although he started out with his feet in the recreational world, he no longer sells products to the recreational Airsoft community. In conjunction with some of the top minds in Reality Based Training, Bill wrote the first armorer and trainer certification schools for the use of Airsoft for police and military. While there are a few minor disagreements in training philosophy between the RBTA and Bill (i.e. the RBTA discourages Airsoft for High Level scenarios where there is story-line and emotional content - we believe in cartridge-based training munitions for this purpose, the coloration for the identification of Airsoft training weapons, and a couple of minor issues in the standard of protective gear required) we are otherwise on the same page when it comes to training issues.

As a result, this is pretty much a closed forum with the exception of occasional training tips and proclamations that will be made here from time to time. If there is sufficient interest, it is possible that we will open up a forum for these issues here on this forum site. Until that decision is made, however, you are strongly encouraged to visit Bill's excellent Airsoft site located here (http://www.21sttactical.com).

Stay safe!

Didn't see much discussion on any of the forums so I thought I would start a dialogue on Airsoft. My agency began to use it for force-on-force training last year and it has proven an effective, and cheap, tool for reality based training. There is a huge diversity and hodgepodge of information on this and there does not seem to be a national (or state) standard for training and certification.
I head a college police department and we train quarterly on active shooter scenarios, utilizing gas blowback and CO2 pistols and AEG rifles.
I am writing a book on Airsoft for police FOF training, since I found nothing out there and hope to publish by summer 08.

Would like to see more discussion on this forum, as dialogue, and disagreements, are what fuels progress.

Hey Luis:

The site hasn't really launched yet, although it has been up for a while. My plan is to get the whole RBTA website more fleshed out while I have a bit of downtime on the road. Thanks for the post ... I hope that once things are humming, the posts will come!

Anybody have ideas or schematics on a pellet trap for airsoft guns. Looking for something "mansized" to capture the BB's so we don't have to constantly pick them up.
