In the training realm, incidents and accidents occur at an alarming rate. The only situations that are usually circulated, however, are the fatalaties. The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for people to tell the story that happened to them or someone near them. Each of the postings will be moderated personally by Ken Murray to ensure they are sufficiently sterilized so that no individual or agency is identifiable. This way, the information of the event can be distributed without embarrassing those who were involved or responsible for the occurrence.
By posting such occurrences, readers can begin to understand the sheer volume of tragedies or near-tragedies with the ultimate intention that this information might help to prevent similar occurrences elsewhere through a higher level of vigilance when it comes to the development and implementation of training exercises.
Situations such as unintentional discharges, injuries or dangerous occurrences during force-on-force training, unsafe training methodologies, improper uses of training technologies, etc. are some of the examples of situations that can be reported here.
In each and every class that is taught regarding Reality Based Training safety, nearly all of the participants have personal experiences where something did, or could have, gone terribly wrong. Rather than simply laughing nervously, wiping one's brow and issuing a sigh of relief when the results were not tragic, it is important that all of these incidents be recorded so that we can all understand that the training arena is extremely perilous absent the simple safeguards that can and should be in place to prevent such potential occurrences.
This information is important, and again, identities will be protected. Please participate in this important forum.
Please note ... you will NOT be able to respond to this message. To participate in this forum, please start a new thread for each occurrence. Thanks!
