How are trainers dealing with students, especially senior officers, who do not take the training seriously.
We recently conducted our first trial of airsoft drills with one scenario. One officer was not taking things seriously during our drills. We counciled him, and he continued. Should we have stopped the training after one counseling session when he lost focus? What is recommended? The officer did continue and perform well during our scenario.

Sounds like your counseling session worked. You took the right approach. Typically, people diffuse tension through humor. When they are terrified to fail in front of others, they want to blow it off and play a game. When you refocus them and take the seriousness of the training to heart yourself, you often inspire others to take it seriously. This is the main reason that we must put realistic scenarios together and ensure our role players take it seriously. Sounds like you're doing that. Keep up the great work!

It is a tough problem, I have found the best approach is to reduce the amount of grab ass/ screwing off amongst the instructors and to present a professional demeanor. Once the desired behavior is demonstrated by the instructors (and this took some work for us believe me) then we had fewer problem students.
