Tony Blauer, one of the clearer voices in the preparation for violent encounters world, put out a great article recently as published by Calibre Press. In his article, he discusses the necessity for going beyond Physical wins. In our training philosophy, and in our soon to be released book The Seven Survivals, we discuss the necessity for six other considerations beyond the physical win. Training, as well as organizing ones life, should move individuals and organizations towards building resilience in all seven of these areas. They are:

  • Physical
  • Social
  • Legal (both criminal and civil)
  • Mental/Emotional/Psychological
  • Moral/Ethical
  • Professional
  • Financial

Building resilience in these key areas is essential in order to remain whole following a violent encounter and it is essential to understand that a single failure in one of these seven key areas can topple the entire domino chain as they are all interconnected. In this upside down, Twitterverse maelstrom that we live in, a lie can make it halfway around the world before the truth can even put its pants on. So, ideally, organizations and individuals should do their level best to ensure they are not handing their ultimate adversary a victory before the fight has even started. One of our recent articles addressed, for instance, why a pithy sloganed shirt might seem entertaining but it might be dragged out as Exhibit A during a courtroom challenge of your actions as a means of demonstrating that you were an angry hater, out looking for a fight.
